“Living between two worlds is a key theme in Kim Thúy's novels. When she was ten years old, she fled with her family from Vietnam to Canada, like many other so-called "boat people". There she became a lawyer, a restaurant owner and author. In 2018 she was shortlisted for the alternative Nobel Prize for literature. A meeting with a fascinating storyteller and unconditional optimist."

Born in Saigon in 1968, Kim Thuy left Vietnam with the boat people at the age of 10 and settled with her family in Québec. She now lives in Montréal and devotes herself to writing and to her restaurant. Her first book, Ru, was a best-seller in Québec and France and translated into more than 25 languages. Ru also garnered numerous literary awards, including the prestigious 2010 Governor General’s Literary Award. She also authored the novels Vi and Man.
